12 signs of spiritual purging after an awakening

When it comes to spiritual enlightenment, awakening is just the first step.

What comes next—purging—is the important part, but not always pleasant.

In this article, I’ll show you 12 signs of spiritual purging after an awakening, and what those signs mean.

The signs

It’s important to reiterate that when we purge old energy, it can be difficult at times, but worth it.

1) Weariness

One of the first signs of spiritual purging is weariness. There’s a big shift going on, and that change and swap of energy can leave you feeling drained and worn out.

So if you notice your body is weary, tired, your spirit lackadaisical, make sure to be patient with yourself, and with the process.

Awakening leads to further enlightenment, but it also requires a clearing out of the old. This process can be exhausting.

Pay close attention to your energy. Allow it to flow. Don’t hold on to any negative emotions, feelings, or thought patterns. Let them pass through you freely. Keep in mind the final goal: your spiritual awakening.

It may not be pleasant leading up to this point, but holding on to old ways of thinking will be more unpleasant. To do that will leave you confused, exhausted, and your weariness may not go away.

Further, clinging to these old habits, allowing ourselves to wallow or give up at this point in the process, will rob us of our spiritual awakening.

2) Unease

A sense of unease is a common sign of spiritual purging. We have to release so much of what was once the only thing familiar to us: our habits, our thoughts, our old views of the world around us.

Once we start the awakening process, these things start to dissolve and fade away. Imagine them dripping down through a grease trap inside you. It’s not the most enjoyable feeling, so don’t be alarmed if you feel uneasy.

In fact, uneasiness is one of the most common signs of spiritual purging after an awakening. You’re not alone in your feelings.

Be mindful of your unease, listen to your body, and your mind, but allow these things to pass through you. Know that serenity and clarity will come to you soon; you’re well on your way.

Acknowledge the old as it slips away. You could even imagine hugging each thought as you send it on its way. They no longer serve you, but they had a purpose once.

As these old energies leave, they will bring in all kinds of new light, spirituality, and clarity into every aspect of your life.

3) Confirmation of a real psychic

The signs above and below will give you a good idea of how spiritual purging feels after an awakening.

But a surefire way to know for sure is to speak with a real psychic.

However, I know how important it is to stay away from fake mediums.

That’s why I recommend Psychic Source. They provided me with a unique insight into where my life should go, including who I was meant to be with.

Having tried several online psychics, I think they’re the most caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable psychic network out there. Not only will a genuine psychic tell you all about spiritual purging and awakening, but they can reveal all your future possibilities.

4) Sense of shifting

A big sense of shifting is a common and prevalent sign of spiritual purging. Like a landslide, everything is changing as you awaken to new spirituality.

This sense of shifting can be either positive or negative. If everything feels like it’s changing, that might put you on edge or make you uncomfortable.

Change can be hard, but remember: the only constant in life is change.

However, it’s possible that it’s been time for things to change for far too long. So when you feel everything start to shift, you feel a sense of relief.

In this way, a sense of shifting can prove to be positive, and that change can lead to a spiritual purge feeling beneficial.

Here are some big signs from the universe telling you it might be time to move on.

5) Achy, lethargic

During a spiritual purging, quite a few people often report feeling like they’ve got the flu. Their body gets achy, they feel lethargic, they show symptoms of physical illness.

It’s just one of the many ways our bodies react to negative energies as they leave our consciousness. We store so much of our tension, our emotion, our anger, hate, fear, and resentment in our bodies.

It’s no surprise that when we start to purge and move out old energy, we might start to feel sick.

We stir up all of these old feelings, stored in our body, and it has a tangible effect on us. Once we start to detox, it has to get worse before it gets better.

Make sure to take care of yourself during these times. It may be that you really do have the flu, so make sure to take the proper precautions: hydrate, stay home, get rest.

Pay attention to what’s happening inside you—allow yourself to feel and recognize what you’re feeling as you awaken to a new spiritual reality.

It won’t be long before you’ll have released the bad from your body, and paved the way for those greater, brighter spiritual insights.

6) Emotional extremes

I tend to face some big shifts when the new moon comes around. Especially if it’s been a particularly challenging and instructive month leading up to the new moon.

And when I get to the point where I’m ready to allow new spiritual energy in, to awaken to higher frequencies, I often face emotional extremes.

One minute, I might be ecstatic, free, and can’t help smiling. But the next, all I can do is lie down as my body fills with anxiety, dread, and exhaustion.

These kinds of emotional extremes are a key sign of spiritual purging after an awakening.

If you notice your mood swinging back and forth, it could be a big sign that you’re nearing the end of a purge.

You can feel yourself lifting away from toxic and heavy energies, as you enter into a newer awakened state. However, there are still some dregs left that you need to clear out, and they pull you right back down.

There’s no need to worry, just make sure to give yourself the patience you deserve. It can be frustrating, I understand. Especially when you get glimpses of how good it feels to be new, awakened, and aware.

Patience will allow you to deal with—and process—those final negative feelings, and let them out of your body.

Soon, maybe sooner than you think, you’ll have fully purged and your spiritual journey can continue ever upwards.

7) Dizzy or giddy

It’s common for the strong emotions that come with a purge to get the better of us. They can, in all honesty, be disorienting.

Sometimes, though, that can lead to ecstatic and wonderful states of being.

You may feel slightly overwhelmed, perhaps lightheaded and dizzy. These kinds of feelings are normal.

The overflow of energy pouring into your body can take getting used to. It might lead to being slightly disoriented.

When I find myself facing a new spiritual revelation, or a release of old energy, I feel it concentrated in my forehead. Sometimes it’s best if I just sit still and take a few breaths.

This spiritual ascension and release of toxic energy can leave you feeling giddy. Maybe you can’t stop smiling, or laughing. The relief, the release, it can be intense.

It’s a big sign that you’re purging all your old spiritual energy.

You may even find yourself happy crying. Here’s a fascinating article all about happy crying—what it is and why our bodies do it.

8) Feeling you’ve lost touch with your core self

Spiritual awakening can come in many forms. For some, it can be so powerful that it crushes all of their old beliefs. That’s one of the reasons spiritual purging becomes so difficult.

A sign of spiritual purging is feeling like you’ve lost touch with your core self.  However, this could also be a sign that indicates you’re on the wrong path spiritually. To figure out what your case is, here are some questions:

Are you tired of hearing the same message when it comes to spirituality?

Are you exhausted from trying to always be the best version of yourself, of always trying to be positive?

Or are you sick of feeling disconnected from others who may not be as spiritually aware as you are?

If so, there’s the reason why:

You’ve been sold toxic spirituality.

Don’t feel bad about it though, so many of us have fallen into this trap. Including the shaman Rudá Iandé.

In this incredible free video, Rudá explains how his initial approach to spirituality did more harm than good. Now, with over 30 years in the field of spirituality, he hopes his experience can help others avoid the same mistakes.

So what makes Rudá trustworthy? How do you know you won’t get more of the same toxic crap?

Well, Rudá isn’t going to tell you how to practice your spirituality. Instead, he’s going to give you the tools to find empowerment from within.

Every exercise in the video will put you back in touch with your core self, step by step.

It’s never too late to bust the toxic spirituality myths you’ve mistaken for truth.

9) Confusion

Many people tend to assume that it’s a walk in the park to awaken to a new spiritual reality and to purge what once served us but no longer does.

However, it can be very uncomfortable at times. In fact, it can be even more confusing than not having awakened at all.

But wait, you might ask, how is it awakening, then, if it makes you more confused?

That’s a good question. It’s important to remember that spiritual awakening is a process. It’s easy to live with an old world view, or the same one.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say, and it’s true. How easy it is to live with the blinders on.

But when we take them off, it can be confusing at first. The blinding light of waking up can leave us reeling.

It’s happened to me with some of my bigger revelations. The confusion can be disheartening, honestly. It’s tempting to think that everything should just make sense, and to be frustrated.

Just take a few breaths, focus yourself, feel your energy, and you’ll start to piece together a new view, your higher energies will start to flow, and you’ll find stasis once again.

Once you find stasis, you’ll find everything is far clearer than it was before, because you’ll have completed your spiritual purge.

10) Unbalanced & uncentered

It’s common for a spiritual revelation to leave you off-kilter.

In other words, if you’re feeling unbalanced and uncentered, it’s a big sign that you’re in the process of spiritual purging after an awakening.

It’s important to give your mind, body, and soul time to come to terms with all the new information that you now have.

It doesn’t take a lot for me to feel off-center. It could be from some negative experience (which I’m working on being more mentally resilient), but it could also be from something positive.

Finding and keeping homeostasis can always be challenging, and this is especially true if we’re going through a bigger spiritual event in our life.

All kinds of old energy is being purged, to make way for all the new energy that needs to come in. It’s only logical that this kind of shift will lead to our feeling unbalanced and uncentered.

That’s because this is all new territory. You may not know how to act, how to feel, or how to interpret what is, in many ways, a brand new reality.

So make sure to focus on yourself. Meditate, and focus on yourself. When you tap into what’s going on inside of you, you’ll be able to find your center and your balance in no time.

11) Pain

As someone who is perhaps more nostalgic than I should be, a spiritual awakening can prove to be quite painful.

An old life, a prior way of thinking, something dear to me that I’ve realized no longer serves me—these are all examples of things that cause me pain to leave behind.

And that’s a sign of spiritual purging. It’s not always easy, it’s not always something that brings immediate satisfaction, happiness, or joy.

It can be hard to know that we need to let go. It can be painful. So if you’re experiencing pain as you try to complete a spiritual purging, remember that it’s normal to feel this.

However, it could be painful because you’re still trying to hold on. When we hold on to things, it can cause a lot of unnecessary pain. This can be true for acquaintances, old lovers, family members who have passed on, and it can also be true for old habits, old versions of ourselves, old truths and worlds.

Knowing when it’s time to let go can be one of the hardest things to learn in this life. But when we do learn, everything becomes easier, and more joyful. We can truly feel free, and love everything that comes to us at this moment. Right here and right now.

So allow yourself to feel the pain of a spiritual purge. But remember to let it all go, too.

12) Ecstasy

When we face a spiritual awakening and we purge something old, we’re heralding a new chapter, a new era: an age that will bring us untold blessings, love, light, and happiness.

The tangible excitement of this realization can lead to overwhelming feelings of ecstasy.

You may even skip the negative signs of a spiritual purging, and only feel ecstasy. Don’t think that you’re doing it wrong just because you haven’t had to grapple with anything negative.

In other words, there’s no reason to feel guilty if you find yourself overflowing with ecstasy.

Allow yourself to feel the joy. Surrender to the ecstasy of your revelation. It’s one of the most blissful blessings that any of us can feel.

Use your new spiritual energy and light for good, share it with the world, and rejoice in the ecstasy of a successful spiritual purge.
