The good news is that ladybugs are a hopeful and positive omen for the future.
However, there are some exceptions where ladybugs can be a bad sign, which I’m also going to go over.
My ladybug love story…
I found out about these lovely creatures in a bit of a unique way.
Who else wants to go with me on a little trip back in time?
Here’s the scene:
I’m 14 at summer camp and I’m head over heels for another camper called Kaitlyn.
Her main interest? Ladybugs and how cool ladybugs are.
You can guess what my newfound passion became: how cute and wonderful ladybugs were and how they were so symbolic and adorable. They are a potent symbol in many cultures around the world.
But, it turns out Kaitlyn was onto something. And sadly, our romance never fully took flight and Kaitlyn friend-zoned me after a week.
But my interest in ladybugs didn’t die out and I still find them fascinating to this day.
What does it mean when you dream about ladybugs?
Ladybugs mean a number of things in various indigenous cultures and in dream interpretation theory.
I’ve collected the top 10 meanings so you can answer the question: what does it mean when you dream about ladybugs?
Usually, if you’re dreaming about ladybugs then you’re in for a treat because they have a deep spiritual significance.
1) Lucky bug
As a bright red bug from the beetle family that can hide in her shell or transforms into a flying insect, the ladybug also has small legs that feel tremors in the nearby area and alert her to danger.
Ladybugs are generally a symbol of luck and good fortune.
When you dream about a ladybug you are often having a spiritual message sent to you about a coming time of prosperity and serendipity.
Keep in mind that it’s not always literal:
Ladybugs can signify career, romantic and financial success, but they can also symbolize self-actualization and inner growth.
2) Trust the plan
One of the main things that ladybugs symbolize is that the universe will provide.
Ladybugs are a very self-sufficient and remarkable creature and when they appear in your dreams it can be a reminder about how you are stronger than you know.
The universe is telling you to trust the plan. You will be given what you need, both materially and spiritually.
Ladybugs are a potent protector and symbol of trust: they tell you to go beyond words and get in touch with your inner vitality.
As the author Marty Rubin wrote:
“A ladybug landed on my notebook and I suddenly felt no need for words.”
3) Hidden colors
Ladybugs are dynamic denizens of our Mother Earth. They can rapidly curl up to protect their soft underbelly or they can scamper and fly at the drop of a hat, flying to freedom.
These creatures can be a real symbol of your hidden colors and true self and show you the need – or opportunity – to embrace your true self and take flight as you go forward on the path of life.
What does it mean when you dream about ladybugs?
In many cases, it means that there is a hidden part of your personality or life experience that needs to come out into the open so you can spread your wings and fly.
4) Transformation and truth
Ladybugs are generally a very lucky symbol that signifies truth, prosperity, and positive change.
If you had a memorable dream about a ladybug then you’re in fortunate company.
Often ladybugs symbolize a transformation that will take place — or could take place — and be a very beneficial thing.
Ladybugs are humble but competent creatures, a symbol to you that even your dark days when you feel like nothing can be the fertile ground of a future flight and a journey to success and achievement.
5) Fertility and prosperity
Various Native American tribes have a special interpretation of ladybug dreams.
Indigenous beliefs consider the Earth to be sacred, part of a circle of life ruled by the Creator, and endowed with meaning, guidance, and spiritual assistance.
Ladybugs give birth to many children every year and are very fertile creatures. Native American cultures regard them as a symbol of fertility and renewal.
The ladybug is hope and growth for the future, as well as a remembrance of past lives and transformation in the Spirit World.
The ladybug is also a symbol of being humble and trusting the Creator to provide and replenish all our needs in life.
6) Wish upon a ladybug
For the ancient Celtic peoples of Ireland, the ladybug was a very important symbol of wish fulfillment.
When a ladybug landed on you, in Celtic culture, you were supposed to make a wish on it which the special creature would then carry back to God and fulfill for you.
The Celts also considered the ladybug to be a special symbol of protection and regarded dreams of ladybugs to be good fortune and any dream of killing or harming a ladybug to be a bad fortune.
Various ancient Asian cultures also believe that ladybugs understand humans when they speak and interpret for them, translating their wishes and prayers to the gods and higher spiritual realms.
7) Moving on
What does it mean when you dream about ladybugs? Sometimes it means that it’s time to move on.
Ladybugs’ colorful shells are not only for show: they’re an evolutionary warning to other predators to back off because they don’t know what they might find.
When you dream of a ladybug that you’re trying to catch or that flies away from you, it can often symbolize an approaching romantic breakup or that you should break up in order to reach your full potential.
Sometimes the ladybug entrances you with her beauty and dynamic nature, but if you truly love her you need to let her fly away.
8) Divine protection
In the Western religious tradition, ladybugs are also important and are considered by some to be symbols of divine protection. Some Christians also regard the ladybug as a symbol of the Virgin Mary.
“During the Middle Ages, hordes of voracious insects descended upon the fields and orchards of central Europe. Fearful that all their food crops would be destroyed, people prayed to the Virgin Mary for help.
According to legend, red and black beetles appeared, making a feast of the invading insects, thus saving the crops. People called their winged rescuers the beetles of Our Lady. Their red wings were said to represent the Virgin’s cloak. The black spots were symbolic of her joys and her sorrows.”
One of the natural functions of a ladybug is to eat insects that harm plants, and in this way, they protect the growing things of your home.
This can be regarded as a spiritually protective metaphor as well: the ladybug wards off evil and confusion, protecting the seeds of faith in your heart and helping them have the safety to receive the nourishment they need.
Here you were reading an article about how ladybugs are good luck and we’ve already gotten Biblical!
9) Messenger from Asgard
Ladybugs are also an important symbol in Norse mythology.
Maybe some of you know that from the Marvel films? I learned Norse myths growing up because of the kind of school I attended and they definitely have a lot of deep wisdom in them.
One Norse myth is about Odin’s wife Freya (who is also Thor’s step-mom, but the family drama gets complicated and messy, so I won’t get into that).
Freya is the goddess of beauty and love and she is also a Virgin mother. Freya spoke the ladybug into existence in a shard of Thor’s lightning, making the ladybug a divinely powerful bug. She gave it as a present to the earth.
10) Sad ladybug
I told you I would let you know about the cases where dreaming of a ladybug is negative, so here we go.
If you dream of killing a ladybug or harming it, then this can be a sign of coming trouble, injustice, or misfortune.
In addition, if your dream has ladybugs that are falling down, unable to fly, or being harmed in some way it can be a symbol of broken-up love, failure to deal with the changes of life, or a coming tragedy or setback.
Don’t worry, though, usually, ladybugs are a very fortunate symbol, and dreaming about them is a good omen.
What does it mean when you dream about ladybugs?
As we can see, many cultures from around the world regard ladybugs as special creatures who help and guide humanity.
Generally, dreaming about a ladybug is a sign of good fortune and blessings.
These remarkable creatures remind us of our own power to transform, adapt, overcome and be ourselves.
