Cheating is as much a part of the human condition as it is an ethical gray area.
It’s something that happens to us, whether we like it or not. The only way to deal with this, then, is to accept it as part of life and come to terms with it.
But here’s the thing: even if you DO come to terms with cheating, it still has bad effects on you spiritually, especially if you’re the one doing the deed.
This article will help you see cheating from a spiritual perspective, helping you to understand how this behavior affects your soul and what to do about it if it happens to you.
Here are ten little-known spiritual effects of cheating:
1) Cheating can lead to bad karma
Cheating can make you paranoid that others will cheat on you, which would later become a self-fulfilling prophecy—that you’ll eventually have bad karma.
It’s also possible that you’ll also attract the kind of people who’re totally fine with cheating, and because of this, you’re more likely to get cheated on.
This feeling that something bad is about to happen to you will always follow you wherever you go unless you make the necessary steps to heal and forgive yourself.
2) Cheating can lead to depression
Cheating is a powerful source of guilt and shame. When you cheat, you’re not only betraying your partner, but also yourself. You’ll feel guilty for being the cause of your partner’s misery.
This guilt can lead to depression, which is a form of spiritual illness. Cheating is also responsible for an increase in anger, which can be harmful to you and the people you love.
If you’re currently cheating on your partner, your soul is already in bad shape, no matter how happy and “normal” you may feel. Talk to a therapist to sort out your issues before you get in too deep.
3) Cheating can make you lose trust in love and relationships
Cheating can make you feel that love isn’t real or that it’s hard for you to stay in a committed relationship.
When you’re dealing with cheating, it can be tempting to throw in the towel and give up on love altogether. You’ll worry that you’ll only hurt the people you love.
I want to suggest doing something different.
It’s something I learned from the world-renowned shaman Rudá Iandê. He taught me that in order for us to be in a fulfilling relationship, we first have to stop chasing love in a toxic way, that includes codependency.
Codependency is just one form of toxic love where the bond between two people is based on one person’s insecurity, and the other fulfilling that insecurity.
Eventually, this dynamic will fall apart – maybe even by cheating, because it is unsustainable.
Rudá explains in his Love and Intimacy masterclass how many of us chase love in this way, and how to get out of it.
Rudá’s teachings showed me a whole new perspective.
By doing his masterclass, I was given the empowering tools to believe in love again, heal my own unhealthy patterns in relationships, and learn how to become the kind of partner that no one would want to cheat on.
It all started with learning how to love myself.
So if you’re done with having your hopes dashed over and over by partners, then this is the journey you need to explore.

4) Cheating can make you more dishonest
Cheating makes you feel like a deceiver.
It makes you feel like you’ve broken your own moral code and betrayed those who trust you.
The result is that cheating actually makes you less honest, as it gives you an excuse to be dishonest with yourself and others, such as lying about your infidelity or “forgetting” that you cheated on someone else in the first place!
Cheating also leads to an increase in dishonesty in all areas of life—from lying about where you are or where you’re going when driving, to lying about how much money you have.
So you see, cheating has a lot of other bad traits that go with it, which are all harmful for you and could potentially lead to bad karma if you don’t try to get rid of them sooner.
5) Cheating leads to spiritual stagnation
People who cheat often go through a period of spiritual stagnation.
This happens when they feel guilty about what they did and become depressed by what it means for them as humans and for their relationship with the Universe.
If you cheat on your partner and subsequently feel bad about it, that feeling of guilt and shame can lead to an inability to forgive yourself for what you did.
This feeling can then prevent you from growing into the person you want to become and stagnation happens—spiritually and physically.
6) Cheating can cause a spiritual crisis
The act of cheating can cause a spiritual crisis not only in the person who is being cheated on but to the cheater as well. It can make you feel like you aren’t capable of loving another person.
It can create a feeling of depression, guilt and shame because you’ll feel like you’ll never be able to stay in a committed relationship…and that you’re not deserving of good things.
This can lead to feeling bad about yourself, which can lead to a spiritual crisis.
7) Cheating can result in a sense of loss
Whether you’re the one who cheated or the one cheated on, your life and everything you know about it has changed.
Things will never be the same again for you and you may feel a sense of loss for the life and innocence you once had.
You might start to question everything in your life from how your parents raised you to the kind of friends you have.
You might even start to wonder if you’ll even be happy, because now everything has changed.
8) Cheating can result in a sense of isolation
You may feel isolated from everyone and everything you know and love, especially if you cheated on your partner.
This can lead to a feeling of despair and hopelessness that could lead to depression.
This feeling of isolation is a natural response to the betrayal and hurt your partner feels. You need time to heal and rebuild trust with them, but you don’t have this luxury if they won’t give it or are not willing.
However, there are many who will be happy to help in any way possible – family members, close friends; even strangers! Reach out for support so that you can feel less isolated from those around you because no one should ever feel alone as long as there’s someone ready and waiting in their corner.
9) Cheating can cause you to feel like a failure
Cheating can make you feel like a failure in the relationship and in life, because it means you failed to be faithful to your partner and that you’re not deserving of love.
This can lead to feelings of shame, guilt and embarrassment because it means you let yourself down as a person.
If you’re feeling this way, it’s time to make a change. The best thing for your relationship is to get honest about what happened and talk openly about the consequences of cheating, as well as how you can ensure it doesn’t happen again in the future.
10) Cheating can cause you to feel like a monster
You feel heartless…like you’re evil and selfish. This is because you took something away from them, which they cannot ever get back.
If you allow this feeling to consume you the way you allowed yourself to engage freely in cheating, you’ll have a hard time crawling out of it.
It’s important to remember that no one is perfect and we all make mistakes.
If this is the case, then you are not a monster and your partner will always love you unconditionally because they know what it means to be with someone who loves them as much as they love them.
And if they won’t, at least you should love yourself. You’re a human being with flaws, and you love yourself while you try to become better.
11) Cheating can cause you to feel alone
Cheating can leave you feeling terrified and isolated because you’ve done something that you cannot openly share with anyone.
You’re confused of what you’re doing and how you’re feeling, and you feel you need some guidance to get out of the mess you created, and yet you prefer to bottle everything up because of shame.
There are only a few things worse than feeling lonely especially when one is going through a crisis and this can have bad effects on you and your soul.
12) Cheating can make you feel that there’s nothing beautiful left in this world
Cheating can make you feel like there’s nothing beautiful in this world, because you’ve taken something that was so precious and precious to someone else and destroyed it.
You’ll lose that sense of innocence—that life is all about butterflies and roses.
This is the most difficult and distressing feeling of all and something that’s hard to recover from.
Steps to overcome the negative spiritual effects of cheating:
1) Be honest with yourself
Be honest with yourself about why you cheated on them in the first place.
If there was something wrong in their behavior or something that made cheating easier for you, then by all means talk to them about this so they can work out ways of dealing with these issues together.
It’s important to be honest with yourself first before being honest with your partner.
2) Ask yourself what you want moving forward
Do you want to get back together and make things work?
Do you want to be separated but remain friends? Or do you want them to leave and never come back?
This is an important step because it will help you figure out what’s best for both of you.
Once you know what you want, talk to your partner about it.
Consider all your options.
Don’t just think about the first option that comes into your mind, but consider all the options available to you so that you can make the right decision for both of your futures.
3) Come clean and ask for forgiveness
If you’ve cheated, then you need to come clean and ask for forgiveness.
This is the hardest thing you’ll have to do, but it’s also the most important.
Do not try to justify the act because that will only make you feel guilty and ashamed.
Face your partner and be ready for the consequences of your actions.
It’s essential that you don’t make excuses and that you tell them immediately. They may be shocked, but they will also want to know exactly what happened so they can understand why you did it and how they can support you as a relationship progresses.
4) Forgive yourself for cheating
You’ve made a mistake, but this does not mean that you should be condemned for it forever. You cannot move on properly and start a new relationship without forgiving yourself first.
It’s important to forgive yourself for cheating. You’re only human and you deserve another chance to become better.
5) Start a brand-new life
You need to start a brand-new life and make up for what you’ve done. It’s time to take responsibility, and go forward with honor.
Don’t let past mistakes keep happening over and over again. You’re responsible for how far these reach now from here on out!
You may also want to think about building friendly relationships with more people so you can identify what it is that you really want before diving into another relationship.
It also helps a lot if you take some time for introspection and self-growth, so when the next one comes along, you’ll be ready for real commitment.
I can’t recommend the Love and Intimacy masterclass highly enough to do just that.
Whilst you’re starting a brand-new life, it’s important to prioritize your healing in order to change the way you approach relationships for the better.
Rudá’s masterclass offers just the path way to do that.
