10 clear signs God is upset with you (and what to do about it)

Do you feel that God is angry with you? Is this because you did something wrong?

Do you think that He is disappointed with what you’ve done and looks at you with a frown?

Now you feel terrible and are searching for signs that God is upset with you.

Sadly, many people think this way. We tend to think that we risk hurting or offending God and that He becomes displeased and will respond to us in anger.

Here are signs to confirm if He is furious at you so you can address it properly.

Is God upset with you? 10 signs to know

Our relationship with God remains very personal, whether we upset Him or not.

Will the Lord be displeased with us if we have fallen from grace?

This is disturbing – and I know that the last thing you want to happen is to be outside God’s favor.

So take time going through the 15 signs below to discern what God feels about you and that He wants you to repent of your evil ways.

1) You can’t feel God’s presence

Do you feel like going deaf from the heavenly silence?

You try to seek His presence but still, you don’t feel God in your midst.

Even the greatest saints in the Bible often felt the absence of God. In the Scripture, Prophet Isaiah himself cried out in despair,

“You have hidden your face from us.” – Isaiah 64:1-7

Many Christians also presume that God goes silent when something goes wrong as God’s Spirit means that He has turned away.

Here are probable reasons why:

  • You’re too distracted from your feelings
  • Your connection with God gets disrupted
  • Criticism judgment, resentment, pride, and other ‘hidden sins’ are blocking it

The thing is that God often leads us through the dark, silent valley for He wants to purify our hearts.

God wants us to continue walking with faith and believing that we are not alone even when we can’t feel the warmth of His presence.

So continue to believe and build your relationship with a loving and faithful God.

2) God goes silent

You seek Him but He seems silent. And this silence is hurtful, difficult, frustrating, and even excruciating.

You may even start to wonder, maybe God doesn’t care for me the way I thought he would.

But don’t assume that God left you or is frustrated with you. For He will never be silent.

He is watching, listening, and working. He is waiting for you to tell Him how you feel.

He cares about what’s tearing your heart apart.

It’s just that he’s probably already given you directions that you don’t want to follow. Or it could also be that you have muffled His voice through disobedience and sin.

Remember this,

When you feel God’s absence and hear His silence, continue to trust His presence.

Open your heart, eyes, and ears to know what God is saying to you.

3) Your prayers are unanswered

Does it seem like God ignores you when you pray to Him?

We cannot expect God to answer our prayers if we have cherished sins in our lives and refuse to give them up; or if we are disobeying Him and doing the things we shouldn’t be doing.

God can’t hear us if we refuse to forgive others who have wronged us.

As James 5:16 shares we have to confess our sins to be healed, as the prayers of a righteous person are effective.

Know that God is sovereign and can choose to answer any prayer by His grace and mercy. He also intervenes in the lives of unbelievers in response to their prayers.

God gives us and knows what is best for us.

Sometimes, God also answers differently to what we prayed for.

“He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” – Psalm 145:19

And if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

4) Your heart is full of anger and resentment

When you’re in God’s presence, there is peace and fullness of joy.

But if your life is poisoned with grudge, bitterness, hatred, and jealousy, you might not feel the presence of God.

It could be that this negativity is the reason why God is upset.

God doesn’t want you to hold on to your offenses and unforgiveness.

“God will not forgive you until you have forgiven others.” – Matthew 6:14-15

Keep this in mind,

Letting go of resentment can lead you down the path of healing and peace. Heal your heart and free yourself from all that blocks you.

Here are powerful tips to help you:

  • Try to think positive thoughts about the person you resent
  • Soften your heart toward the person who caused you pain
  • Manage your expectations and be open to different outcomes

5) You are being miserable

When you feel that God is upset with you, you’ll notice that you’re always being miserable.

You once enjoyed your life, but now it seems that all your joys and happiness are gone.

You are miserable because of the effect of sin in your life – both inwardly and outwardly.

Even if you feel this way, it doesn’t mean that God hates you or has forsaken you. For He will never do that.

“God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance.” – Romans 2:4

He may be using those situations to make you realize what you’ve done wrong and draw you closer to Him.

It’s because sin brings misery into our lives. And this truth drives us to faith and repentance, and to see the glory of Christ.

6) Things aren’t going well in your life

Does everything you try to do lead to failure? Does it seem that you’re always breaking loose?

You feel disappointed when what you’ve expected, hoped for, and planned didn’t turn out the way you want them to. You even start doubting yourself.

See this as an opportunity to heal your past issues.

There are endless reasons for this – and a sign that God is upset with your disobedience or rebellion.

God wants you to turn to Him to get things moving again. Let God lead you in the direction you want.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

If you rely on God, submit to His will, and increase your faith in Him, He will guide your path in moving forward.

7) You experience streaks of bad luck

It seems that life is throwing tons of curve balls and turning against you.

You experience a series of misfortunes, problems, or even unexpected illnesses no matter how hard you try to do things the right way.

God is upset, and He’s allowing these things to happen in your life to make you realize something more.

He may want you to change what you’re doing or repent your wrongdoings.

Why not do some soul searching and ask God to help you come to Him?

Many people who experienced misfortunes and chronic illnesses in their life have seen it as a wake-up call to repent and turn to God.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace.” – John 16:33

God is our reliance. Believe that God’s grace will help you make it through.

8) You feel humiliated

The Lord lifts the humble but despises the proud. And this means that God never tolerates pride.

So if your pride damages your relationship with God and keeps you away from Him, then expect Him to do something about it.

The world will judge you, so you will see how depraved you are. It could be from that failure that impairs your reputation to those thoughtless remarks that make you look like a fool.

But there is glory in this humiliation. Even Jesus experienced being humiliated (even if it’s not warranted at all).

While the source of your humiliation isn’t fair, it opens you to the deepest depths of God’s grace and mercy. His intentions are pure.

God wants you to humble yourself so He can guide you through your journey.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” – 1 Peter 5:6

This is one way for God to bring you to your knees and bring those humiliation to end.

9) You receive warning through dreams

God seals instruction through our dreams to notify us of our faults. He counsels us and gives us ways to move forward from wrong circumstances.

If the Lord is trying to reach you in your dreams, He wants you to know a very important message.

But then, most people ignore warning signs from God and refuse to take action.

You must know that God doesn’t punish right away. Instead, He will send warnings when you do evil deeds.

When God speaks to you through your dreams when He is upset, He’s trying to make you realize that what you are doing is wrong.

“He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings.” – Job 33:16

He wants you to repent from your sins. He desires that you return to Him to obtain forgiveness and mercy.

When I was going through my struggle with my relationship with God, I reached out to Psychic Source.

10) You’re forsaken by the Lord

When God is upset or angry with you, He will forsake you if you continue in your sinful rebellious lifestyle.

You may not feel that God has forsaken you, but you will experience being abandoned and betrayed by those around you.  You may face agonizing trials and situations that will deform you – and none of those are redemptive.

This is because He doesn’t approve of your evil deeds, but He will draw you closer if you draw close to Him.

But the thing is,

Even in those horrifying days when you feel abandoned, God is doing something extraordinary for you.

In those most crushing pain and despair, God brings His glorious triumph.

“Let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him since he delights in him.” – Psalms 22:7-8 NIV

And you will experience this when you repent, obtain mercy, and restore your faith in Him.

What to do when God is upset with you?

God is upset because you’re hurting yourself with your actions.  God’s heart is breaking when you sin, but He doesn’t stop loving you.

Whatever it is you’ve done, God’s ready to forgive and restore you right now if only you’ll ask.

His unfailing love for those who believe him and even those who don’t is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

Know that God loves you as you are – and as much as He did before you messed up.

The truth is,

Nothing you do, good or bad, can change God’s love for you.

1) Admit that your wrong

God’s forgiveness comes easy. The only thing you need to do is to sacrifice your pride.

God moves beyond His anger when you own and repent your sins. Ask his forgiveness and He will give it to you without any hesitation.

2) Humble yourself and turn back to Him

Turn yourself away from sins and evil deeds that displease God.

God only wants the best for His people. His holiness demands that we make amends and set our lives straight.

3) Pray consistently

Ask God for courage, strength, and peace to make it through the day.

When you feel distant from Him, pray for help as He will guide you closer to Him. It is through talking to God that you will feel His warmth, presence, and undying love.

4) Have a relationship with God

Sometimes God allows trials to happen so He can reveal His purpose to us. And sometimes, He is preparing us for greater things.

Pursue loving God and give your heart to Him. Accept His wonderful plans for you and let Him decide for you.

Believe that God can change your life.

5) Trust him and believe his word

When you fully understand God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, and unconditional love, know that He is merciful towards you – and not angry.

And no matter what your misconception about His feelings toward you is or how many evil deeds you’ve done, He will never stop caring for you.

So, remove yourself from all the devilish lies that are restricting you from the new life Jesus holds out for you.

God loves you

God’s perspective is infinitely greater than yours – even if much of what is happening is unseen.

While it may look otherwise in the moment, evil will never be victorious. God means for good and has the last word.

So trust that God is using everything to bring you closer to Him.

If it seems that every day is a fight to survive or your life has been a hopeless mess, trust His mercy on you. Believe that his gloriousness will always prevail.

God will always do incomparable work in your soul.

And when this happens, you will learn to truly rely on God, His love, and His works.

Your pain will transform you, and you will live a life more beautiful than you ever imagined.

When you see that God has changed your life for the best, you will never want to go back to the way you were before.

Understand that God has wonderful plans for you – and evil cannot thwart that.

And you will see that the triumph of goodness and eternal joy will fall afresh on you.

Final thoughts

God doesn’t seethe in anger over you, instead, He longs for you. God delights in you and loves you.

It is evil who wants you to feel that God is so upset and frustrated with you. Satan uses anger as a weapon against you!

It is Satan telling us that we have failed God, attacking us with guilt and shame. This evil wants us to feel discouraged and give up our relationship with a loving God.

Satan is destroying our confidence in our relationship with God.

The truth is,

God takes pleasure in giving mercy. And He desires all His lost sheep to turn back to Him.

God is waiting for you and is ready to embrace you with open arms.

Rest in that truth today and be blessed.
