Are you wondering if you are walking down the right path in life?
You may think God has been silent but if you look intently, you might discover He has been sending you confirmation that you are walking in the right direction.
There are many ways that God reveals it to us but in this post, I will share the top 10 signs from God that tells you you’re going on the right path in life:
1) You experience fulfillment in what you do
God’s blessings are not a consolation prize. Our Heavenly Father wants us to experience rich, full, and fruitful moments in our lives.
However, true fulfillment comes only with living in alignment with God’s will for our lives.
If there is fulfillment in what you do, it is one evident sign from God that you are on the right path in life.
You find yourself enjoying the work you do and each day is lived with passion and purpose.
This doesn’t mean that you never have bad days where you feel overwhelmed. It doesn’t mean that nothing will go wrong in what you do.
It’s just that, even in these situations, you are not easily discouraged because you know that God is on this journey with you.
In reality, we are living in a world where we are ruled by productivity, it’s easy to associate work with pain and boredom.
So if you feel overwhelmed and burdened by life right now, it might be a sign from God that He desires something better for you.
So where should you start?
Start by getting more clarity about your purpose and His will for your life.
Then align what you do with His plan for your life. When you are in alignment, it becomes easier to live with joy and fulfillment.
2) You feel at peace
Every waking moment could be filled with constant struggle.
You may be juggling through multiple jobs just to make both ends meet. You may feel like nothing is working out, no matter how hard you try.
You might see yourself as a failure remembering every wrong decision you made in your life.
However, amidst all these concerns you encounter, if you still feel peace and serenity deep inside, it is a sign from God that you are still walking on the right path in life.
There was in fact a time in my life where I was working multiple jobs to pay off bills.
Everything was doing great not until I lost one of my job which caused a huge gap in our finances. I admit I got worried. My thoughts went wild and I began overthinking about the future.
Right after that, as I was doing my quiet time with God, I was reminded through Philippians 4:6-7 to pray and rely on God in tough times. This was the message that brought me comfort:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
After hearing those words, my circumstance didn’t change. I didn’t get the job back and I didn’t get a new one.
But this is what I know: I felt the peace of God deep within my soul.
It really doesn’t matter what circumstance you may be in.
When you feel God’s peace amidst the chaos, it can show that you are still walking on the right path. It might be a rough, rocky, and less traveled road, but it is the right path God wants you to go through.
So how do you come to have this kind of peace?
The best way is to consistently spend time with God, in silence, and in prayer.
You can only experience the peace that surpasses all understanding by spending time with God, in stillness and away from distraction.
3) There is joy and contentment in your heart
While we can have great things that bring us satisfaction, we will never truly feel content and joyful living apart from God.
A sense of true contentment and joy is something you experience only when you align what you do with God’s plan for your life.
Just as Paul talked about in 1 Timothy 6:6-12:
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”
Feeling that joy and contentment within you is another way God tells you that you are walking on the right path.
Chasing after things that don’t have eternal value will always leave you feeling empty and constantly striving for more. You will always find yourself wanting more and never be contented.
While these things may be enjoyable and good, soon you’ll realize that they don’t bring true satisfaction because they will eventually leave you empty inside.
How do you build up contentment?
Practice gratitude. Give thanks to God even in the smallest things.
People living a life with joy and contentment are usually grateful people. They never forget to give God the glory for their achievements, joy, and blessings in life.
4) You find help and support from people around you
God has wired humans to need each other and help each other. He has made us interdependent upon one another so that we can be a source of blessing to each other.
Therefore, if you receive help and support from people around you, it is one way God is saying that you are right where He wants you to be.
You need like-minded people that God can use to encourage you, pray for you, and empower you.
It is also important to have people around you who are committed to living out their faith and loving others unconditionally.
Having people who are accountable to you can help you keep on track with your life. It will give you a support system when you feel tempted to go down the wrong path.
As it is said in the scriptures in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12:
“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
Simply put, having friends and family in your life who support you helps keep you on the right track in life.
They can help to support your dreams and live out your purpose in life. They can help you to see things from a different perspective.
Additionally, having accountability partners is important because God often uses these people to keep your life in check.
5) You find joy in giving
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
You probably have heard these words. In fact, this is found in the Bible in Acts 20:35.
But then, you might wonder, why is it better to give than to receive?
Because you can never run out of joy by giving and the more you give to others, the more joy you will find.
God has a promise attached to every giver, too. Luke 6:38 says:
“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Living a life of generosity is a sign that you are walking in the right way God wants you to.
What if you are struggling to give?
Giving is an act of humility and it requires complete trust in God. This kind of attitude is something that comes with time and practice.
If you have not been able to give much in the past, don’t worry; God will help you eventually.
Being aware of this struggle is the first step to overcoming it.
Allowing God to work in your heart is next. Ask God for the grace to have a generous heart, especially to those you think don’t deserve it.
6) You’re treated with love and respect by others
Who would have thought that being a nice person is a sign that you are living right before God?
But when we focus on being kind, loving, and compassionate, it doesn’t come from our own doing. It is an expression of who God created us to be.
God has given us this amazing and valuable gift that we can give to others.
The attitude of love is what will draw people toward you and get them interested in you.
How you treat others will reflect back on how they would treat you.
Jesus spoke about this in Luke 6:31, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
If you sow a seed of love, you will reap a harvest of love. Being kind and loving to others is one good sign that you are walking on the right path in life.
Think about it:
If you are surrounded by people who treat you with kindness and respect, it means that your goal to be a blessing to others is worth the effort you put into it.
Knowing that this is true can make a difference in how you approach your relationships and the way you treat others.
7) Your heart is open to God’s will for your life
God has given us humans the free will to make our own decisions.
God didn’t want us to be robots. He wanted us to be able to make choices in our lives.
You can choose what to eat, where you want to go, who you want to spend your life with, and what you want to do with your life.
But God did give us one guiding principle that we must follow if we are going to use our free will properly: the will of God for our lives.
Having the desire to know His will and obey it is enough sign that tells you are on the right path God wants you to.
So, why is God’s will for our lives a big deal?
It’s because His will is always for our own good. He is our Father and He only wants what is good and perfect for His children.
However, we are always caught up in mundane concerns and common distractions that keep us from knowing God’s will for us.
But one thing is for sure:
God is not keeping His Will from us. In fact, they are all written in the Bible.
So if you want to know God’s will for your own life, read His Word and hear Him speak.
If you listen to His still small voice within, it will guide and direct you in the right direction. It won’t steer you wrong or send you down the wrong path. You just have to practice listening to His voice.
8) You are able to forgive yourself and others
Is forgiving easy? Of course, not.
We all have moments when we have a hard time forgiving someone.
Forgiveness is a process that takes time and effort. However, this is the only way we can be free from our own struggles and heartaches in life.
When you are able to forgive others, you are becoming more like Jesus Christ.
You are following the example of Jesus Christ because He was the one who showed us how to forgive and love our enemies.
As Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Becoming more like Jesus in our character is one sign that tells you you are walking on the right path.
Easier said than done, right?
I know. Forgiving yourself and others is never easy — especially on your own might.
I’ve been there. I’ve wrestled with God and debated with Him about why I needed to forgive a certain person who has hurt me. I just thought it was so unfair.
Why would I forgive someone who didn’t even feel sorry for what he did?
At that moment, I confess I cannot do it. Not on my own.
But here’s what I learned from that situation:
The most important step to forgiving and moving forward is to actually ask God to help you forgive.
God is the only One who can heal and make you whole again.
The Bible teaches us in 1 Peter 2:24 that Jesus was wounded and suffered for our sins. He took our pain and suffering upon Himself on the cross, so that we can be healed by His love.
Right after realizing that, I slowly opened my mind and allowed God to work in my heart to forgive that person.
So if you have a hard time forgiving yourself or others, ask God for the grace that you need to let go and release forgiveness. It will all be a process and it won’t certainly happen overnight.
9) You have an increased awareness of the beauty of the world around you
One good sign to look for if you are walking on the right path is when you realize that God is showing you how beautiful life can be.
God can bring beauty out of ashes. He is able to bring something good out of every bad situation you think you are in.
Knowing this truth gives us hope.
Being aware of the beauty of life will give you more purpose and meaning in life. It will open your eyes to see the good in life and not take everything for granted.
The most beautiful things in life are not always material things, but they could also come in a different form.
It could be the joy you feel in spending time with your family.
The peace you experience in forgiving someone who has wronged you.
Or the hope and faith you have when things get tough.
When you are aware of the beauty found in life and relationships, it will give you more purpose for living.
It will also show you that God has been working in your life on this right path.
In the Bible, God showed King Solomon that He was the one who created everything good and beautiful around them.
When you take time to notice and appreciate the beauty of all that God has created, it will open your eyes to recognize Him more and more in your life.
10) You are growing in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ
The last sign I wanted to share is this:
You know you’re walking on the right path when you feel it in your heart that you are getting to know Jesus more personally and on a deeper level of intimacy.
As your relationship with Jesus grows, you will gain more and more understanding about who He is.
And in knowing Him personally, you will see that He never changes and never fails to show His love towards you.
Jesus gives you hope and purpose when life gets difficult and hard.
Knowing that the only way to overcome these difficulties is by depending on His strength and love, you can bravely walk through anything life throws at you.
If you are in the season of your life where you want to spend time getting to know Jesus more, it is one of the most evident signs that the right path is in front of you.
Don’t worry too much if you’re not in that stage yet.
The fact you’ve read this far means you have that desire to know God by identifying if you are walking on the right path.
If you are not there yet, you can ask God to give you that desire to get to know Him more through Jesus Christ.
As He said in Jeremiah 29:11-13:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart.”
God will hear you and listen to you when you seek Him with all your heart.
So are you walking on the right path?
I hope these signs brought confirmation to any confusion in your mind.
God loves you and He wants to help guide and lead you in your journey in life.
If you looked at this list and didn’t feel encouraged to be on the right path, ask God to open your heart and mind to His truth.
He will help you in your walk as well as give you a greater understanding of what it means to live a life of righteousness.
And remember, you are a work in progress and God’s not done with you yet!
