The human body is a complex system of energy centers and pathways called chakras and meridians.
These systems help balance the flow of energy in our bodies.
When I first found out about chakras and meridians, I was fascinated and wanted to learn more.
Because the information I found was so mind-blowing, I wanted to share it with you today:
What is a chakra?
A chakra is a vortex of energy. We have 7 chakras in our bodies and each chakra is an energy center.
Chakras are interconnected not only with the physical body but also with our mental and emotional states. They also connect us to the outside world — think of them as energy gateways.
Chakras are like little power plants that produce energy. They receive energy from the outside and distribute it to where it’s needed.
However, if one chakra is blocked, that can mess up the flow of energy to all other chakras.
7 important chakras
There are seven main chakras that start at the base of your spine and go up towards your head.
1) Root Chakra (Muladhara)
The Root chakra is related to your survival instinct and basic needs such as food, shelter, and safety.
If this chakra is blocked, you might experience anxiety and feel like you can’t handle your life or get through life’s challenges.
The root chakra is related to our survival needs. If the chakra is blocked, it can cause feelings of anxiety and a sense of being overwhelmed.
If the chakra is too active, we may feel like we are not able to handle what life brings.
The root chakra is also related to sexuality and creativity. If the chakra is too active, you might feel driven to have creative outlets, like art or writing.
The root chakra is located at the base of your spine.
2) Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)
The Sacral chakra is related to creativity, sexuality, and your ability to trust and open up to others.
If this chakra is blocked, you might find it difficult to feel creativity in your life or be able to express yourself sexually.
If the chakra is too active, you may feel like you are unable to connect with others or trust people in your life.
The sacral chakra is also related to your creativity. If the chakra is blocked, you might feel like you can’t create anything in your life.
If the chakra is too active, you might have creative ideas that are difficult to put down.
The sacral chakra is located below your belly button, basically around where your sacrum is.
3) Solar Plexus Chakra (Swisdhahana)
The Solar Plexus chakra is related to your ability to take action, your confidence, and your self-esteem.
If this chakra is blocked, you might feel like you can’t take action or make decisions in your life.
If the chakra is too active, you might feel like you need to be in control of everything in your life and feel like you always need to be the best.
The Solar Plexus chakra is related to your confidence.
If it is blocked, you might find that you don’t have the confidence to move forward in your life.
The solar plexus chakra is located at the apex of your ribs, right where the Solar Plexus lies.
The solar plexus is a bundle of nerves right behind your ribcage.
4) Heart Chakra (Anahata)
The Heart chakra is related to your ability to love and be compassionate for yourself and others.
If this chakra is blocked, you might find it difficult to love others or feel compassion.
If the chakra is too active, you might feel like you need constant love from others, but not be able to give it back.
But that’s not all.
The heart chakra is linked to your ability to open up your heart and let yourself love other people.
If it is blocked, you might find it difficult to open up to people in your life.
The heart chakra is located right in the center of your chest.
5) Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
The Throat chakra is related to your ability to communicate with others, but it also represents your ability to speak your truth.
If this chakra is blocked, you might find it difficult to communicate with others or speak your truth.
If the chakra is too active, you might find yourself speaking out of turn or constantly arguing with people in your life.
If you’ve ever learned that your opinion doesn’t matter or that you aren’t heard, then this chakra might be blocked.
The throat chakra is located in the center of your throat.
6) Third Eye Chakra (Brow Chakra)
The Third eye chakra is related to your intuition and ability to see the big picture in life.
If this chakra is blocked, you might find it difficult to trust your intuition or see the bigger picture in your life.
If the chakra is too active, you might feel like you need constant reassurance in life or find yourself worrying about things that you can’t control.
The third eye chakra is also linked to your intuition.
If it is blocked, you might find yourself unable to trust your intuition or use it to guide you through your life.
The third eye chakra is located in the center of your forehead, above the eyebrows.
7) Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
The Crown chakra is related to your spirituality and connection to the divine.
If this chakra is blocked, you might find it difficult to connect to a higher power and trust your intuition.
If the chakra is too active, you might find yourself feeling disconnected from the world around you and not being able to find your place in it.
The crown chakra is located at the top of your head.
What are meridians?
Meridians are pathways of energy that run through your body.
They help move energy through your body the same way blood vessels move blood.
There are many different kinds of energy meridians.
Some are part of the chakra system (or align with the chakras), while others are independent. Each meridian is made of two pathways: a source and a sink.
The source is where energy is generated; the sink is where it’s released once it’s done its job.
Meridians often associate with certain organs and body parts.
There are dozens of meridians. Some are used to treat illness. Others are used for meditation or healing.
The idea of meridians originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine.
How are chakras and meridians related?
Chakras are part of a larger energy system called the human energy system.
This system is also made up of meridians. These energy pathways are like rivers of energy that flow through our bodies.
They’re similar to the blood vessels or veins in our bodies that carry blood through our bodies. Like blood vessels, energy meridians are filled with this energy.
The human energy system includes the chakras and meridians. These systems work together to regulate energy flow.
Without that healthy energy flow, it is difficult to stay healthy and happy.
The chakras and meridians are connected to each other. They work together to keep our energy system balanced.
When there is an imbalance in one of these systems, it affects the other. It can cause illness or emotional problems.
For example, if your root chakra is blocked, it might affect your other chakras. It can cause you to have digestive problems or feel insecure about your body.
However, that can also be linked to your meridians.
The human energy system is a complex system that relies on many different parts working together in order to function properly.
Only if you understand the different systems properly, you can learn how to heal it.
How to balance your chakras
If you find that your chakras are out of balance, you can do a number of things to get them back on track again.
You can do things like yoga, meditation, and visualization.
You can also treat illnesses that affect your chakras with herbs. However, you can also use crystals to heal your chakras.
A chakra crystal is a crystal that has been charged with healing energy.
When you hold it or place it near your chakra, it will cleanse and energize the chakra. It will help bring it back into balance.
Chakra crystals are usually associated with the color of the chakra they’re healing. You can also use gems, minerals, or crystals that have been charged with healing energy.
Now, that’s not the only way to balance your chakras, however.
You see, your chakras are deeply connected to the trauma you’ve lived through.
For example, if you’ve experienced a trauma where you felt like your survival was threatened, it can affect your root chakra.
It may make you feel like your survival is always at risk.
If you have a trauma that involves abuse, it can affect your sacral chakra. It may make you feel unsafe in relationships.
Traumas can also get lodged in our energy system and stay there until we heal them.
And that’s not all – if a wound is in our bodies for too long without being healed, it can manifest into physical problems, like muscle knots, inflammations, cysts, etc.
However, the good news is that we can release traumas from our energy system through healing work.
There are many different types of healing modalities out there that allow us to do that. Reiki is one of them and so is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).
You see, when we heal our traumas, it helps us to get back into balance with our chakras as well.
We’re able to release blockages and negative energy and bring ourselves back into balance again.
If there’s one thing I want you to take away from this article it’s this:
Our chakras are deeply connected to trauma in our lives and they’re linked together on an energetic level as well as a physical level.
Trauma gets stuck in our body on an energetic level by affecting the meridians or the chakras themselves which creates blockages within those areas of the body or the energy system.
It’s important to understand this because once you do, you will realize that a lot of the problems you might have in life were just a result of unhealed trauma!
When I found out about this, I immediately wanted to find out what was going on with me.
I went to see a trauma-informed coach and he taught me all about this, especially how I can use simple techniques such as meditation and nervous system regulation in order to work through my trauma!
Needless to say, I was never the same, once I started healing, I felt like a whole new person!
How to balance meridians
If you’re not feeling as healthy as you’d like, one of your energy meridians might be blocked. This can stop energy from flowing where it needs to go.
Blocked meridians can lead to health problems like allergies, headaches, and even mental health issues.
If you want to heal your meridians, you don’t have to do something drastic.
The thing with meridians is that according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is all about figuring out whether a meridian is “full” or “empty”.
If it’s full, then you need to clear that energy and if it’s empty, then you need to fill it up with more energy.
Any acute problems, such as acute pain or illness are usually a result of a meridian that’s too full. Anything chronic, on the other hand, is a result of an “empty” meridian.
Now: the entire meridian system is based on the fact that every meridian has its mirrored counterpart.
When one meridian is empty, you can stimulate it to fill it up. If it is too full, you fill-up the counterpart to draw some of the energy away!
There are numerous ways to do this, but one simple one would be by using Acupressure Massage Therapy.
It’s a very simple massage therapy that involves pressing acupressure points.
According to TCM, the body has many energy points that are linked to the meridians. These points are connected by invisible channels known as meridians.
By stimulating these acupressure points, you can balance your meridians. But this therapy doesn’t only press certain points, it also involves tracing the exact meridians!
Now: there are also other ways you can apply this knowledge. One would be actual acupuncture with a needle.
Now: this will be a bit scarier (especially if you’re afraid of needles), but it’s also a very effective way to heal your meridians.
A way to boost your energy and restore your chakras
If you’re feeling like the ground is pulled out from underneath you and you’re struggling to keep your head above water, you might have low energy.
There are a few ways you can boost your energy and restore your chakras.
Get outside: Being outside in nature can lift your spirits and boost your energy.
Exercise: Exercising regularly has been shown to increase energy levels and improve sleep.
Eat Well: Eating well can help boost your energy levels, too. Especially meridians are often also linked to our diet and how that relates to our energy.
Now: there is one way I personally love to use whenever I feel as though my energy is out of whack.
Not only does it help with imbalances in the chakras and meridians, it is also very effective in treating anxiety!
This technique is called tapping.
Yes, it is basically exactly what it sounds like – you tap on certain meridians.
Now: it is a bit more complicated than that, however. You don’t just tap on any meridian, you actually need to know which points to tap on.
Of course, each of these points has a very specific meaning, but you don’t need to know it all in order to successfully use tapping.
Tapping is part of the EFT, the Emotional Freedom Techniques. When I use this technique, I focus on 9 main points to tap on:
The top of the head
The eyebrow
The side of the eye
Under the eye
Under the nose
The chin
The collarbone
Under the arm
On the side of the hand
Of course, there are some other points you could tap on, as well, but for me personally, focusing on these 9 has helped tremendously with my anxiety and with balancing out my energy.
