There was a time that people thought Alpha personality types were hard to deal with; and in some cases, they are. But most people who have Alpha personalities just have a strong desire to express themselves in a certain way to get what they want out of life.
Of course, this is often construed as being aggressive or overly assertive, and it can cause problems if you are an Alpha and don’t realize you are doing certain things to upset people.
Here are 5 things you might not realize you are doing if you are an Alpha personality.
1) You Hate Small Talk
When you are focused on something, the last thing you want is someone distracting you with some side chit-chat. This can make you seem unapproachable to coworkers, friends and even family. If you find yourself cutting people off mid-sentence, you might want to tone it down a bit so that you don’t scare people away.
2) You Hate Ignorant People
Jeez, who doesn’t hate ignorant people? But you take it to a whole new level and make sure they know their place. You speak freely in an effort to make people see the error of their ways and you don’t make any apologies for it.
3) No Excuse is Good Enough
When something falls short or someone doesn’t deliver a project on time, you are annoyed and find it hard to accept whatever lame-ass excuse someone gives you. While this has helped you get to where you are today, sometimes you need to hear people out. They might have more than just a lame excuse for what has happened.
4) You Don’t Need Validation
With so many people spending time sending Snapchat selfies and posting on Instagram to appease their fans, you are comfortable in your own skin and with your own routine. You don’t need people to validate you as a person and that can scare people a little.
5) You Make Something Out of Nothing
Alpha personality types are super resourceful and can quickly turn a frown upside down because of their ability to sift through the crap and find the sunshine quickly. This is hard for people to handle because most people like to sulk around for days or weeks when things go wrong, but Alphas get right back to work trying to find solutions to problems and are often more successful in life because of that.
Whether or not you identify as an Alpha personality, it’s worth doing a check-in with yourself once in a while to make sure you aren’t scaring off prospective clients, friends, lovers and the world at large. While it’s great to be confident and not need someone’s approval, there aren’t too many people in the world who can get along without friends and love of some sort. Make sure you stay true to who you are but be aware of how your personality could be pushing people away from you. You are awesome and people deserve to get to know you. Let them.
